FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
THINGS YOU MAY WANT TO KNOW
How can therapy help me?
Therapy is about making changes in your life for the better. If you are thinking about change, you are probably feeling a decent amount of pain and are mentally and emotionally distressed. You are sick and tired of searching for answers and coming up empty. Change can be difficult and when you are ready to change, you will! I believe that from the challenges in life, opportunity presents itself.
What is your role as a therapist?
I see my role as a therapist as a supportive, caring person who can listen to your concerns nonjudgmentally in the safety of my office. I see myself not as an expert, but more as a guide to help steer you in a direction that would be most helpful to you. We work collaboratively to discuss and confront issues that may be keeping you stuck.
Does going to therapy mean I am weak or flawed?
No, of course not! Many people put off seeking outside help because they are worried that seeking out therapy is regarded as some sort of character flaw or weakness. That notion could not be farther from the truth. Actually, it takes great strength, courage and self-awareness to recognize the need for outside help and guidance. Everyone struggles at different times in their lives and sharing your concerns with a therapist can help you resolve your issues more quickly than going it alone.
How often do I come to therapy and how many sessions do I need?
The answer to the question is it depends. Typically when people begin therapy, they attend sessions weekly until they feel more apt to handle their situation and then may attend sessions bimonthly. Some people feel better in a few sessions, but I would recommend at least 12 sessions to have enough time to really explore and develop new patterns for success. For couples, I would suggest that the first four sessions be an assessment of your relationship. Together, we structure our time and sessions with what would be in your best interest.
What is your fee structure?
My fee is $180/ standard 50 minute session
Do you accept my insurance?
I am an out-of-network provider for insurance companies. You will need to find out what your out-of-network insurance benefits are and what your reimbursement would be from your insurance provider. I can provide you with a receipt that you can submit to your insurance company for partial reimbursement. If you choose to use your out-of-network benefit, full payment for your session will be required at your appointment time.
I also accept Flex Spending Account/Health Savings Account which is an option may clients use to pay for therapy services. You can use this benefit tax free.
Using A Flex Savings or Health Savings Account
If you wish to pay for counseling out-of-network using this pre-tax benefit, I am able to accept your credit card. This benefit does not require you to have a mental health diagnosis.
No Surprises Act
If you do not intend to use your insurance or are out-of-network, you are entitled to a Good Faith Estimate. We together decide the length and frequency of sessions so there are additional costs that are specified on the No Surprises Form. The form states my projected rate for one year. We can discuss this at our first session.
How quickly can I be seen and how do I set up my first appointment?
Usually an appointment can be set within the week. You can call me for a telephone consult so we can discuss your concerns and to determine if we would be a good fit working together.. I ask that you fill out paperwork found on my website prior to our first session.
